   What is TOEFL?

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is one of many standardized tests issued by the Education Testing Service (ETS).
This test is arranged for people who want to study at Universities of the USA or Canada, to join MBA programs or whose employers bring forward availability of TOEFL Certificate as a mandatory requirement for work.

What is TOEFL iBT?

TOEFL iBT (internet-based version of the TOEFL) is a new version of the International TOEFL test.

A new format of the test is figured for evaluation of four skills of knowing the language: Reading, Listening, Writing и Speaking.

The test consists of four sections:
The total duration of the test is about four hours.
The TOEFL iBT contains tasks from both the old version of the test and new tasks, which are made on a combined principle and involve more than one language skills.
In the new Speaking (oral speech) section 6 tasks are offered to be fulfilled with usage of earphones.
The Writing section is extended and contains complex tasks, which offer writing an essay on the basis of the read text and comments to it.

Beside the Certificate proper an applicant may learn the results of the test by Internet and receive them by mail.

   What is IELTS?

IELTS (the International English Language Testing System) is the evaluation system worked out for certifying the knowledge level of the English language.

This test has been acknowledged by many Universities, professional and governmental organizations of UK, Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand, and also educational institutions of Austria, Germany, France, Ireland, Holland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Israel, Hong Kong and South Africa.

IELTS is necessary for study at colleges and Universities of America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. It is also necessary for those who want to immigrate to Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and to get employed abroad.

Peculiarities of IELTS
This test system is to check up all language skills: auditing, speaking, reading and writing. Tasks on reading and writing provision the necessity of choice between the Academic and the General study modules.

IELTS consists of four parts:
Listening, i.e. skills on understanding of oral speech;
Reading;
Writing;
Speaking.

   What is GMAT?

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a computer test for assessment of knowledge and qualification level of applicants for business-schools, for MBA programs, who want to improve in business and management.

This is a test on general education and it includes testing of skills on speaking, writing and mathematics. The difficulty of this test is that it is taken in English, and therefore requires high level of knowledge of the language.

GMAT is worked out for testing skills which are essential in management, although it does not require special knowledge and does not refer to narrower spheres of specialization.

The test centers are spread all over the world and are open to applicants all year round. GMAT is very popular and is one of compulsory requirements for entering MBA.

GMAT is a unique test, because based on its scoring it is possible to distinguish the applicant’s potentials and to forecast his or her success at business school in the course of study.

The test includes three types of questions to check writing, calculation and speech. Questions are determined individually according to the level of the applicant’s preparation.

GMAT is divided into 3 sections, and the time allocated for each section is different.

The section of Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) requires writing of two compositions on topics chosen by the computer.
The section of Maths (Quantitative Section) is aimed at assessment of mathematic skills and understanding of basic mathematic concepts, ability for mathematic argumentation, solving quantitative problems and interpretation of graphic information. 
The Verbal Section contains 3 stages: reading, critical reasoning and sentence editing.

   What is GRE?

GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is the exam to be passed by those who apply for postgraduate study (i.e. Magistrate programs of Universities) in the USA. There are several options for the test: General Test and Subject Tests.
     
GRE tests are recommended for people with advanced and even higher level of English, as the tasks are quite sophisticated.

While taking GRE, you will have to choose either General Test or a test on Subjects.

The general test evaluates verbal, mathematic and analytical abilities of an applicant and has no reference to any separate academic discipline.

GRE Subject tests are worked out to help the Selection Committee to assess the applicant’s qualification in specific field. These tests also enable the applicant to define his qualification level.

   What is SAT?

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a test for school leavers and students of initial years of University study, who want to continue their education in higher schools of the USA and Canada. SAT is an original American version of testing foreigners. All Universities of the USA and Canada, as well as many Universities of Europe, require the General SAT and some subject SAT results attached to entrance document package.

SAT may be of two types: SAT I, reasoning test, for assessing general intellectual abilities, and SAT II, subject test, for assessment of knowledge on a definite subject. 

SAT-I measures verbal and mathematic abilities of applicants. Verbal sections assess your vocabulary scope, thinking ability and understanding of the material read. Mathematic sections check your ability to solve mathematic problems, and include the following sub-sections: arithmetic, basic algebra and geometry.

SAT II is an assessment on a definite subject.
